About

Yomu EBook Reader

About Yomu.

Yomu is an optimized ebook reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac. I began developing this app out of my own interest, since I could not find any decent e-reader on the App Store. Current apps either try to replicate books or are kind of too technical for my taste.

Instead, Yomu tries to enhance the reading experience by focusing on the possibilities and limitations of the device itself. It does not imitate a book, rather your mobile or tablet becomes the book.

The application is based on the concept of “Augmented Paper”, where functionality is as implicit as possible. The interface is rather minimal, designed to let you focus on reading. Information is at its center and presented with special attention to readability and attractiveness. Yomu’s layout is optimized for ebooks and the typography improved with carefully enhanced styles for better and distraction-free reading.

The application supports standard EPub (.epub), Mobi (.mobi, .prc), Kindle (.azw, .azw3, .kf8), PDF (.pdf) and Comic Book (.cbz, .cbr) documents without digital rights management. Yomu works nicely with many public domain releases (e.g. by Feedbooks, Standard Ebooks, GITenberg, Project Gutenberg, ManyBooks or epubBooks). A curated selection of such ebooks is now available directly on this site.

Download documents directly from your browser or import files with iTunes, AirDrop, OPDS, Calibre, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive or any other third-party storage provider.

Yomu is an independent ebook reader and not associated or affiliated with any publisher. As such, Yomu may also be an alternative to the no longer maintained or available Stanza, Marvin or KyBook apps.

You can get Yomu for free on the App Store or Mac App Store.
